Motorists have been reminded to use caution when driving on regional roads after a mother and daughter were confirmed to have lost their lives in a two-car collision at Everard Central on Wednesday evening.

Police and emergency services responded at about 5.20pm on October 31, following a crash between a van and a Honda at the intersection of Templeton Road and Blyth Road, between Lochiel and Blyth.

The driver of the Honda, a 54-year-old Jamestown woman, and her passenger, an 86-year-old Clare woman, died at the scene.

Police have confirmed the two women were mother and daughter.

The rear passenger, an 84-year-old Clare man, had suffered critical injuries and was transported to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

The driver of the van, a 28-year-old man, had suffered minor injuries while his 26-year-old female passenger sustained serious injuries, they were airlifted to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

A section of Templeton Road was closed for several hours before reopening overnight.

SAPOL Traffic Services Branch Officer in Charge, Superintendent Darren Fielke addressed the media in Clare on Thursday, and said Major Crash Investigators attended the scene and the investigation into the circumstances of the crash were ongoing.

The women's deaths were the 95th and 96th lives lost on South Australian roads, compared to 59 at the same time in 2022.

Supt Fielke said this incident served as another tragic reminder for all road users in South Australia to be ever vigilant when driving, as the state ticks towards numbers not seen in many years.

"Unfortunately, we're at 96 lives lost on our roads this year, we unfortunately are heading for a number that we haven't seen for at least five years, and if we continue to lose lives as we have been so far this year, it will be over a decade since we've seen numbers like this as lives lost on our roads," he said.

"I've said this before, and I'll say it again, it needs to stop, people need to pay attention, people need to share the road, people need to act responsibly, people need to make really good choices on the road.

"If all of these things can come together, we can make an impact in terms of losing no more lives on our roads."
